2021 NFL draft: updating the Eagles draft choice after defeat to the Cowboys in week 16

With the loss to the Cowboys on Sunday afternoon, the Eagles were not just eliminated from the playoff contest.

They also solidified a choice of the top 10.

At the moment, the Eagles have the sixth choice of the draft. They can end as high as they do. 3 or as low as no. 10.

The best choice in the draft that the Eagles could have gotten had they won the division was No. 19.

Here is an update of the draft order, via Tankathon:

The Eagles are tied with the Bengals for choice number 5 in the draft, but the Bengals now hold the tiebreaker against common opponents. The Eagles and Bengals cancel each other in direct confrontation and in the strength of the schedule, but the Bengals are 1-7 against common opponents and the Eagles are 2-6.

So, let’s see how it works.

Week 17 will determine where the eagles will choose in the 2021 draft. They can be as high as No. 3 or as low as No. 10.

Going up

Eagles can move to choice number 3 if they lose next week and if the three teams ahead of them win.

Here are the three teams ahead of them and who they play against next weekend:

3 – Houston (belongs to Miami): 4-11 – (vs. Tennessee 10-4)

4 – Atlanta: 4-11 – (in Tampa Bay 10-5)

5 Cincinnati: 4-10-1 – (vs. Baltimore 10-5)

It is difficult to ask Texans, hawks or Bengalis to win against double-digit teams next week, but it is possible.

Moving down

There are four teams with a 5-10 record behind the Eagles now. So if the Eagles win next week, those teams could end up skipping them in order.

7. Detroit 5-10 – (vs. Minnesota 6-9)

8. New York Giants 5-10 – (vs. Dallas 6-9)

9. Carolina 5-10 – (vs. New Orleans 11-4)

10. Denver 5-10 – (vs. Las Vegas 7-8)

So, if you want the Eagles to keep the biggest spot possible in the draft, you must hope these four teams win next week.

Either way, this will be their first choice in the top 10 since 2016, when they chose Carson Wentz and their first choice in the top 10 without a trade, since they took Lane Johnson in 4th place in 2013.
