2021 Golden Globe winners: the complete list

The 2021 Golden Globe winners were crowned on Sunday night, in a bizarre and bizarrely produced ceremony, hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

There were strange Zoom moments in abundance. There were several uncomfortable, but necessary, mentions of the lack of diversity among this year’s nominees and within the notoriously corrupt organization that distributes the Golden Globe, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. And in between, a variety of television shows and films won new trophies!

On the TV side, the Netflix drama The crown was the most winning program of the night, taking home four statuettes, including Best TV Series – Drama. He was included in the list of winners by his brother Netflix The Queen’s Gambit, which won Best TV Series Limited, as well as Best Actress in TV Drama for star Anya Taylor-Joy. And in the TV comedy categories, the beloved Canadian sitcom Schitt’s Creek culminated in last year’s Emmy with another victory lap in its final season, winning Best TV Series and Best Actress for Catherine O’Hara.

On the cinema side, several films won two Globes each. Searchlight Pictures’ Nomadland won one for Best Film – Drama and one for director Chloé Zhao. Amazon Studios’ Borat Subsequent Moviefilm won Best Picture – Comedy or Musical, and star Sacha Baron Cohen won Best Picture Actor – Comedy or Musical. And from Pixar Soul won Best Animated Film and Best Original Soundtrack. The rest of the film awards were widely distributed: Netflix’s Black Bottom by Ma Rainey, I care a lot, and The Chicago Trial 7 everyone took home awards, just like HBO Max Judas and the Black Messiah, STXfilms’ The Mauritanian, and A24’s Minari.

Despite recent controversies and its reputation as the entertainment industry’s stupidest awards show, the Golden Globe has long served as an important kick-off for the annual Hollywood awards season. This is still true in this atypical year. Although the 2021 edition of the Globes took place two months after normal thanks to the pandemic, they still took place just before the end of the Oscar vote and several weeks before the Oscar ceremony delayed by Covid-19, scheduled for April 25. Thus, Globes maintain their status not really, but sometimes from an Oscar indicator.
