2021 11-inch iPad Pro – claimed CAD images appear

We expect to see new models of iPad Pro in the coming months and today we are seeing what are said to be CAD images of the 2021 11-inch iPad Pro.

The models don’t tell us much, unfortunately, revealing only two minor changes compared to the current model …

MySmartPrice says the images come from a “reliable source”.

Now we have an exclusive first look at the 11-inch iPad Pro (2021) detailing the overall design of the powerful tablet. The leaked CAD RAW rendering, obtained from our trusted source, which wished to remain anonymous, shows that there will be no major changes in the design of the 11-inch iPad Pro.

The images look virtually identical to the current model, although it is said that there are small differences in the external dimensions.

According to our source, the next 11-inch iPad Pro will have the dimensions of 245.74 x 176.61 x 5.90 mm.

Compared to the previous generation, the iPad Pro 11 (2021) will have the same thickness, but Apple will cut a few millimeters in length and width. It is rumored that the iPad Pro 11 (2021) will be slightly smaller, but will have the same thickness as before.

The speaker grids also appear to be smaller, which is in line with a previous rumor.

So far, we expect a notable change to the larger 12.9-inch iPad Pro: the adoption of mini LED backlighting.

This exchanges the tens to hundreds of white LEDs used for backlit LCD screens for thousands of much smaller screens. Having this degree of control over where the backlight is or is not enabled allows for deeper blacks in unlighted areas, greater brightness in bright areas, and therefore a higher contrast ratio. Mini LED is also more energy efficient than the larger LEDs used in today’s iPads.

This represents a different path for the latest Apple iPhones, which use OLED screens. Adding mini LED backlight to older LCD screens has some advantages over OLED, however: less risk of burning and greater longevity.

We have received several reports indicating that Apple will adopt the mini LED for the largest 12.9-inch iPad Pro, but no word on the 11-inch model, suggesting that the feature may remain exclusive to the high-end model for now.

This seems consistent with Apple’s desire to maintain differentiation from the more expensive iPad. The 10.9-inch iPad Air 2020 adopted the format of the much more expensive 11-inch iPad Pro and offered an astonishing number of Pro features. This meant that many of those who would spend money on the Pro would instead buy the Air. If you want a bigger screen, however, you have no option but to buy the Pro. Introducing the mini LED on the 12.9 inch model first would create another incentive to spend more on the top model.
