2-year-old child punched in the face by a beggar on the Manhattan subway: police officers

A 2-year-old boy was hit in the face by a violent beggar on a Manhattan subway train – just the latest in a recent spike in traffic violence in the city, police and law sources said on Sunday.

The child was sitting on his mother’s lap on a C train north on Douglas Boulevard and West 116th Street in Manhattan shortly after 3pm on Saturday, when a homeless woman passed through the doors of a wagon and started asking passengers for money , according to police and sources.

“Can you please stay 6 feet away?” the boy’s mother asked the beggar, sources told the Post.

The suspect started to step on his mother’s left foot, sources said.

When the mother asked her, “Why did you step on me?” the suspect started punching, hitting the 2-year-old boy, the sources said.

A witness told police that she had to remove the suspect from the mother and child – who suffered minor visible injuries to the face and ear, the sources said.

The attacker, described as 40, fled the train when he arrived at the station, police said.

The injured child was taken to Mount Sinai-Saint Luke’s Hospital by ambulance for treatment, police sources said. He has already been released, the sources said.

The suspect was described as a burly woman with a tattoo on her neck and short hair, who was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, faded jeans, boots and a white mask, the sources said.

The incident was just one in a series of recent worrying train crimes, including a terrible wave of random cuts on line A earlier this month that left two people dead and two others injured.
