2 skiers provoke avalanche in Utah, 1 still missing

A pair of skiers triggered an avalanche near Park City, Utah, on Saturday, leaving one buried, officials said.

The search for the missing skier was canceled on Saturday night and resumed early Sunday according to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.

One of the two skiers was able to get out of the snow and go to his friend to try “rescue efforts” – but was forced to leave because of the “extreme avalanche danger in the area,” the police said.

It is not clear whether the victim was still alive when the rescue was canceled, according to Fox 13 in Salt Lake City.

The sheriff’s office declined to give any information about the victim until authorities contacted the person, the station said.
