A Navy Hospital soldier shot and seriously injured two people in an office park in Frederick, Maryland, on Tuesday and then went to Fort Detrick, where he was shot dead by officials, officials say.

The 38-year-old sniper shot two men at a company in Riverside Tech Park on Block 8400 of Progress Drive, Frederick officials said. They did not give the name of the company and it was not clear whether the shooting took place inside or outside.

No information was immediately released about any relationship between the suspect and the victims.

A man shot and wounded two people in an office park in Frederick, Maryland, on Tuesday and then went to Fort Detrick, where he was shot dead by officials, officials say.

Frederick’s police chief, Jason Lando, said the authorities received a call around 8:20 am reporting a “sniper” situation at Riverside Tech Park. People fled the business, he said.

Shortly thereafter, Lando said, authorities received information that the suspect had traveled to Fort Detrick, about a 10-minute drive away, where the suspect was shot. Efforts to save lives were made on the suspect, but they failed, said Lando.

Lando said there was only one sniper and there is no public threat.

“We have two different scenes. All I can say is that we have confirmed that there is only one sniper, “said Lando.” The public is no longer at risk. Everyone is safe. “

In a statement, the Navy said: “The United States Navy can confirm that there was an incident with an active sniper in Fort Detrick, MD, involving sailors from the United States Navy. The sniper, an officer at the Navy Hospital, passed away. We will continue to update with additional details as the situation evolves. “

The two victims from the office park were transported to the Baltimore Shock Trauma. They are in critical condition, officials said. No one else was hurt.

Jeremy Mutschler, director of marketing for Nicolock Paving Stones, said his understanding is that the shooting was close to the company’s facilities in Frederick, but not in the business itself.

“One of the injured victims came to our facility in search of help and we were able to help and call the authorities,” said Mutschler, who lives in New York.

Several roads in the shooting area have been closed.

Several public schools in Frederick County were “briefly put into a state of blockade,” the district said in a tweet. “All students and staff are safe. The block has been lifted, ”said FCPS officials.

Frederick Community College sent out a blocking alert and then issued a cleared notice. “There is no threat on the FCC campus,” the school said in a tweet.

Authorities hope to provide another update on Tuesday afternoon, they said.
