The scene was “chaotic”, said the first respondents.
Two people died and several others were injured after an armed man opened fire at a party on Chicago’s South Side, according to police.
Police were called to the scene at about 4:41 am on Sunday and found 15 people shot, according to the Chicago Police Department.
The victims are aged between 20 and 44, police said. The wounded were taken to hospitals in the area in good condition to criticism. Some people have moved to the emergency room, ABC Chicago’s WLS station reported.
Several of the injured victims are still undergoing surgery, Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown told reporters at a news conference on Sunday morning.
Brown described the shooting scene as an “impromptu pop-up” that includes the garage of a towing company that was set up as a bar.
Greg Stinnett, assistant deputy chief paramedic at the Chicago Fire Department, described the scene as still “very chaotic” when he arrived.
“They were running. They were screaming,” said Stinnett of the party’s participants. “They were everywhere.”
The reason for the shooting was not immediately clear, Brown said, adding that he still cannot confirm the rumor that a patron started shooting after getting involved in a dispute. The suspect or suspects are not yet in custody, Brown said.
Brown also reminded Chicago residents to continue to adhere to the social detachment guidelines in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Nothing has changed, said Brown.” You are rushing if you think everything is fine in small closed confinements. “
