Two Republican congressmen, Louie Gohmert and Andrew Clyde, received fines of $ 5,000 each for refusing to pass through metal detectors that were installed outside the chamber after the Capitol rebellion last month, multiple news agencies reported Friday.
The House officially approved new rules this week, which include a $ 5,000 fine for circumventing the security measure in the first offense and $ 10,000 fines for additional crimes.

Some other Republican members of the House rejected the new security measures. Representatives Lauren Boebert, Ralph Norman and Randy Weber previously refused to comply with the new rules.
Deputy Andy Harris, a Maryland Republican, tried to bring a hidden weapon to the House floor last month, violating House rules. Harris reportedly asked a colleague, Republican Representative John Katko, to hold his gun, but Katko declined because he said he did not have the appropriate license.
Some Democratic members of Congress have expressed concern about their own security at the Capitol complex after the deadly attack by pro-Trump supporters. Shortly after Harris was found with a hidden weapon, Congressman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told CNN that many lawmakers “still don’t feel safe around other members of Congress.”
“The moment you put a gun on the floor of the Chamber, violating the rules, you put everyone around you in danger,” she said. “It is irresponsible. It is unwise.”
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi condemned lawmakers for violating security protocols this week.
“It is beyond understanding why any member would refuse to adhere to these simple and common-sense steps to keep this body safe,” she said.
