2 dead, 1 in critical condition after accident with semi on I-80

OMAHA, Nebraska (WOWT) – An accident on I-80 involving a car and a semi left two dead and one in the hospital on Saturday.

The Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office reports that the accident happened in the 431 mile marker I-80 westbound area at 3:10 pm

A gray GMC Envoy was driving east on I-80 and was hit by a blue Kenworth Semi with a trailer.

The driver and passenger of the GMC’s front seat were dead at the scene. The GMC’s rear passenger was taken to Bergan Mercy Hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the semi was not injured and the two cars stopped in the ditch beside the west lane. Identities are not disclosed until the closest relative is notified.

It is reported that weather conditions at the time were bad due to snow in the area. Westbound traffic was interrupted while the accident was being investigated.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
