The Brooklyn Nets are definitely looking good after achieving the biggest sales success of the 2020-21 campaign so far.
His big blow to James Harden’s acquisition in January elevated the already powerful Nets from strong contenders to scary favorites for the title this season.
Even with superstar Kevin Durant sidelined by that uncomfortable tendon injury, Harden and Kyrie Irving maneuvered the ship magnificently. Brooklyn has emerged victorious in its last six games and is currently tied with the Philadelphia 76ers for seed in the Eastern Conference standings, with 28-13.
As formidable as the Nets have been so far, it is not even their final form. It will be an even more frightening sight for the other 29 teams when KD returns from his injury and Blake Griffin makes his Nets debut.
In addition, with the negotiation deadline set at a week from now, the Nets can still tweak their roster and add even more talent in their bid to win it all this season.
But let’s be realistic here. The Nets have no more room for capitalization or resources to bring in another superstar player to add to the ridiculous amount they already have.
Unless, of course, they could once again do some acquisition magic and somehow hire Andre Drummond. The rest of the league may only be playing for second place, if that is the case.
Internet fans, however, shouldn’t get too greedy right now. There are still some useful participants out there that Brooklyn can get for a cheaper price.
Let’s look at two players that the Nets must acquire before the NBA’s 2021 negotiation deadline.
Avery Bradley
There is no doubt that the Nets have the best attack in all of basketball now. However, they still need that single defensive stopper to match the elite player on the opposing team.
Avery Bradley of Miami Heat enters, which will be a godsend for coach Steve Nash. The former All-Defensive Team member will immediately become the Nets’ best wing stop and take some pressure off Irving and Harden on the other side of the court.
Brooklyn, of course, will have to roll the dice in this case, considering he is not healthy enough to become a factor for the Heat this season. The former NBA champion has played just 10 games so far, scoring 8.5 points with 47% pitches and 42.1 depths.
But we have what AB can do best, and he will definitely reinforce the Nets’ second unit if they can get him from South Beach in some way. Heat, of course, may be open to parting with him as they haven’t really gotten much from him this year.
The Nets can offer their biggest commercial asset at the moment, the injured guard Spencer Dinwiddie. Miami can afford to wait for their recovery anyway, as they are on the rise right now. The Heat will have to put Maurice Harkless in too just to make wages work.
JaVale McGee
Obviously, the Nets ‘main target on the Cavs’ list is still Drummond. They will have no shortage of rivals for their services, so they may have to settle for McGee instead.
DeAndre Jordan has been fantastic for the Nets so far and there is no harm in bringing in another veteran slot machine with a similar style of play.
His young center, Nic Claxton, has surprised many analysts so far with his superb game, but it will be wise for the Nets to bring a third big streak just in case.
In addition, McGee will likely have Durant’s endorsement, as they have already won two championships with the Warriors.
The Nets, however, may have to be creative in this, as McGee has already ruled out buying a $ 4.2 million salary this season. Brooklyn may have to orchestrate a three-team deal to bring the athletic center into the fold.
