2 arrested for carrying weapons near the White House, officials say

The arrests took place while President Joe Biden was at Camp David.

Two people were arrested for carrying weapons near the White House over the weekend, according to a United States Secret Service spokesman.

The unidentified pair approached Secret Service officials near 15th Street NW and Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, DC on Saturday night, just before 5:30 pm. One of the individuals revealed possession of a weapon and was immediately detained, the spokesman said.

The second individual revealed the location of an additional weapon in a nearby vehicle. Secret service officers located the car and seized the gun, the spokesman said.

The first was arrested for possession of a BB gun, while the second was arrested for possession of an unlicensed pistol, possession of an unregistered firearm and possession of unregistered ammunition, according to the spokesman.

“During the course of the meeting and the subsequent arrests, the individuals posed no immediate danger to any Secret Service protégé,” the spokesman told ABC News in a statement late Sunday.

ABC News contacted the Metropolitan Police Department for additional information.

The arrests took place while President Joe Biden was on his first presidential visit to Camp David, the famous haven for American leaders in the mountains of northwest Maryland.
