1984 Wonder Woman without Dolby Atmos on Chromecast

Prior to its theatrical release and through the broadcast tomorrow, HBO Max is confirming details about how you can watch Wonder Woman 1984 on the new Chromecast with Google TV. Unfortunately, Dolby Atmos is not supported.

The latest streaming stick from Google is a solid option that we praise for its price and useful interface, and it also supports most streaming formats for 4K and HDR. This includes Dolby Atmos, but unfortunately, HBO Max strangely does not support this audio format on Chromecast with Google TV.

On a support page, HBO Max fully details how and where you can watch Wonder Woman 1984 in 4K HDR and this includes the new Chromecast with Google TV, as well as Chromecast Ultra from Google. In addition, Android TVs, some Fire TVs, Apple TV 4K and compatible Rokus can stream with Dolby Vision and HDR10, as long as your TV is compatible.

The HBO Max app has just added support for 4K HDR in its latest app update, but HBO specifically notes that Chromecast with Google TV does not support Dolby Atmos, although the device itself supports this audio standard with other apps. HBO does not specify a reason for the lack of support, and it is strange that only The Google streamer does not.

Wonder Woman 1984 will be the first HBO Max title available in 4K Ultra HD, HDR 10, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. The 4K HDR viewing experience will be available on selected 4K devices. Wonder Woman 1984 is also available in HD on all compatible devices.

note: Dolby Atmos is not available with Chromecast with Google TV.

It’s a shame not to have Dolby Atmos on the new Chromecast, but at least we’re happy that 4K HDR is still available. Hopefully, HBO Max will resolve any issues that are happening before other major releases of the platform are released this year.
