173 more cases of COVID-19, 1 death, 2K vaccinations reported Monday in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY – The number of COVID-19 cases in Utah increased 173 on Monday, with yet another death and 2,326 vaccinations reported, according to the Utah Department of Health.

There are now about 9,242 active cases of COVID-19 in Utah, according to the health department. The average number of positive cases per day over seven days is now 397, according to the health department. The rate of positive test per day for that time period reported with the “people over people” method is now 7.1%. The positive test rate per day, averaged over seven days calculated using the “test over test” method is now 3.5%.

There are now 121 patients with COVID-19 currently hospitalized in Utah, including 47 in intensive care, state data show. About 64% of all hospital beds in intensive care units in Utah are occupied, including about 67% of the ICU beds in the state’s 16 referral hospitals, state data show. About 47% of hospital beds outside the ICU are now occupied in Utah, state data show.

A total of 1,498,039 doses of vaccines were administered in the state, compared to 1,495,713 on Sunday. A total of 976,434 Utahns received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 565,539 are now considered to be fully vaccinated. A total of 1,734,950 doses of vaccines have been sent to Utah so far.

The new figures indicate an increase of 0.04% in positive cases since Sunday. Of the 2,413,193 people tested for COVID-19 in Utah so far, 16.1% tested positive for COVID-19. The total number of tests conducted during the pandemic has increased to 4,294,735, an increase of 3,778 since Sunday. Of these, 2,111 were tests from people who had not taken the previous test for COVID-19.

The death reported on Monday was a woman from Utah County who was between 65 and 84 years old and was hospitalized when she died, according to the health department.

Monday’s totals give Utah 387,514 confirmed cases, with 15,625 hospitalizations and 2,133 deaths from the disease. It is estimated that 376,139 Utah COVID-19 cases are now considered recovered, according to the health department.

Utah House Bill 294, which is also known as the state’s COVID-19 “final” bill, requires that all state and local Utah health orders related to the pandemic end on the day the 14 case rate days in the state is less than 191 per 100,000 people, the average seven days of use of the COVID-19 intensive care unit is less than 15%, and 1,633,000 primary doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been allocated to Utah.

However, Utah received only 920,515 primary doses of the vaccine last week, according to health officials. The state is expected to reach 1,633,000 primary doses allocated in the second or third week of May, according to the health department.
