15-year-old boy dies days after shooting at Arkansas high school

A 15-year-old boy who was shot by another student at an Arkansas high school earlier this week died, officials said on Wednesday.

The teenager, identified by the school district of Watson Chapel and his family as Daylon “DaeDae ‘Burnett, has been in the ICU at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock since Monday’s shooting.

He died Wednesday at 5:35 pm local time, the police sergeant at Pine Bluff. Richard Wegner told NBC News.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends,” said the school district in a post on its Facebook page.

According to police, another 15-year-old boy shot Burnett at 9:59 am local time in a hallway outside the main office of Watson Chapel Junior High School. Authorities are not identifying him because of his age. Although the department did not reveal the reason for the shooting, DeFoor said the incident was “targeted”.

Monday was the first day back to face-to-face classes for Watson Chapel students, after days of remote learning due to a water problem. Secondary school students returned to remote learning on Tuesday and Wednesday due to the shooting. They were scheduled to return to face-to-face classes on Thursday.

“It is imperative that all students take advantage of the many, many professionals who will be present to provide advice and guidance to our students when they return to school,” the district said in a statement.

On Wednesday, a judge set the suspect’s bail at $ 1 million.

He was being held at Jefferson County Juvenile Detention Center on charges of first-degree assault. No charges of murder have been registered. His next hearing is scheduled for April 12.

It was not clear whether he had a lawyer.
