In 2007, Rockstar Games sparked Grand Theft Auto IV with a series of nightly ads that appeared on channels like FX. All the ads added up to 30 minutes of watching the clock tick, with each second punctuated by a shot. The young Zack, always the sucker, fell strongly in the wave.

Yes, remember the old days of 2007. Specifically, March 2007. Like March 2021, many people around the world were waiting for the next big game in the GTA series. However, unlike now, where we have no news or information about the next game, in 2007 we knew that GTA IV was coming. And Rockstar was happy to make fans count down every second until the first trailer goes down.

To be clear, this clock-striking ad was not countdown until the game’s release. No, this watch was simply and loudly counting every second until the first trailer was released.

And yet, the stupid and younger Zack watched this countdown announcement a lot, alternating between Adult Swim and the count. Why? Because I thought, maybe, just Can be, if I watched Rockstar I would show a teaser of the game earlier and I would take a peek! This never happened. These ads ran for a few nights, although exact details about them are difficult to find online. I am honestly shocked that someone has even recorded and sent it to YouTube in 2007.

When the count stopped and the trailer finally went down, the Rockstar website crashed and people were not even able to view it right away. It was a frustrating end to a bizarre teaser campaign, as we probably won’t see it again.
