139-year-old house moves to new address in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – After 139 years at 807 Franklin St. in San Francisco, a two-story Victorian home has a new address.

The green house with large windows and a brown front door was loaded into giant carts and moved on Sunday to a location six blocks away.

Viewers lined up on the sidewalks to take pictures as the structure rolled – at a maximum speed of 1.6 km / h – to 635 Fulton St.

The home journey has been in the planning stages for years, reported the San Francisco Chronicle.

Veteran home builder Phil Joy told the newspaper he needed to obtain licenses from more than 15 city agencies.

Joy said that this move is complicated in part because the first part of the journey involves getting down.

“This is always difficult for a home,” he said.

Along the route, parking meters were pulled out, tree branches were trimmed and traffic signs were relocated.

The owner of the six-bedroom home, San Francisco broker Tim Brown, will pay about $ 400,000 in fees and moving costs, said the Chronicle.
