At this point, almost 60 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine have been administered in the United States and one of the recipients has years behind us!
Maria Aulenbacher is the oldest known person in the state of South Carolina. She is also one of the oldest people in the United States and, last week, the 111-year-old took her second dose of the vaccine. Maria lives near the Blue Ridge Mountains and two of her grandchildren and great-grandchild live nearby. She was born in Germany and lived there for more than a century. But, shortly after her 100th birthday, she moved to the United States across the ocean. Everyone calls it “omi”, an affectionate German term for grandma. She says her secret to a long life is to drink wine, beer and eat whatever she wants.
