Another 11 Maine residents died while health officials reported on Tuesday another 662 cases of coronavirus across the state.
The number of coronavirus cases diagnosed in the last 14 days across the state is 7,393. This is an estimate of the current number of active cases in the state, as the Maine CDC is no longer tracking recoveries for all patients. That decreased from 7,411 on Monday.
Tuesday marked a sharp rise in new cases, after three consecutive days that saw them drop to less than 400. It is still a long way from the Maine record of 824, just two weeks ago. In the past 10 days, there have been six cases with less than 400 cases, a trend of lower cases not seen in the state for some time.
One resident of Aroostook County, five residents of Cumberland County, two residents of Hancock County, two residents of Kennebec County and one resident of Penobscot County succumbed to the virus, bringing the statewide death toll to 558.
Tuesday’s report brings the total number of coronavirus cases in Maine to 37,708, according to the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention. That’s 37,046 on Monday.
Of these, 30,496 were confirmed positive, while 7,212 were classified as “probable cases”, reported the Maine CDC.
The new statewide case rate on Tuesday is 4.95 cases per 10,000 residents, and the total statewide case rate is 281.74.
Maine’s seven-day average for new coronavirus cases is 493.7, up from 455.1 the previous day, down from 610.1 the previous week and 404 the previous month.

So far, 1,357 Maine residents have been hospitalized at some point with COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus. Currently, 194 Mainers are hospitalized, 59 in intensive care and 25 in ventilators. Of 396 intensive care beds, 98 are currently available, with 223 of 320 ventilators available. Currently, 442 alternative fans are available.
The total hospitalization rate across the state on Tuesday is 10.4 patients per 10,000 residents.
Cases have been reported in Androscoggin (4,154), Aroostook (1,105), Cumberland (10,776), Franklin (712), Hancock (752), Kennebec (2,958), Knox (560), Lincoln (445), Oxford (1,814), Penobscot (3,273), Piscataquis (187), Sagadahoc (729), Somerset (1,049), Waldo (487), Washington (587) and York (8,118) counties.

Overall, 1,497,348 tests were administered and the statewide positivity rate is 2.99 percent.
Another 4,881 Mainers were vaccinated against the coronavirus the day before and 2,362 received their first dose. As of Tuesday, 115,213 Maine residents have been vaccinated against the coronavirus, with 25,559 receiving two doses.
New Hampshire reported 434 new cases on Tuesday and three deaths. Vermont reported 268 new cases and one death, and Massachusetts reported 2,215 new cases and 41 deaths.
On Tuesday night, the coronavirus sickened 25,415,114 people in all 50 states, in the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands and the United States Virgin Islands, in addition to causing 424,398 deaths, from according to Johns Hopkins University of Medicine.
Across the country, 23.5 million doses of the vaccine have been administered, an increase of 1.3 million doses since Sunday, according to Bloomberg.
