A 100-year-old man was found dead at his home in a Los Angeles neighborhood on Thursday, and police are trying to determine whether a man arrested in an assault case not far away is linked to the death.
The elderly man was found at his home in Encino “with numerous bruises and lacerations” around 12:50 pm and was pronounced dead, the Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement.
The police are calling your death a homicide.
About an hour earlier, police were called in on a report of a deadly weapon attack and arrested a man in that case, the police said.
The assault victim suffered minor injuries that did not require treatment, police said. The person arrested in the case of the assault was not identified.
An ax and knife were recovered in the case of an assault, but the police did not say which weapon was used or how.
“The investigation is in its preliminary stages,” the police said in a statement. “Detectives are going to interview the suspect to determine whether he is responsible for the death of the elderly person.”
The summons for the assault was on a street from where the elderly man’s body was found.
Further details were not immediately available by the police.
Encino is a neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley section of Los Angeles.
