Last edition:
From understanding the map, earning bonus points, using vehicles to your advantage to defeat hordes and even completing side activities like Dragon Relic, we’ve covered our complete guide to success in the latest Zombies mode, Outbreak.
Quick tips and tricks
- Look for the star icon on your map, as it indicates your primary goal – which can be one of five possible goals. Without completing the main objective, you will not be able to move on to the next region.
- It’s easy to be caught off guard in Outbreak, so make full use of your available field updates. While there are several of these special skills available, we have found that Healing Aura Tier III – especially when you upgrade your different levels – will be an essential skill for your team. Not only will it revive any fallen teammates, but it will also heal you.
- Low on ammo? Look for the bullet icons that appear on your minimap to find ammo boxes around the map.
- Don’t be afraid to spice things up! Teams with varying loadouts have proven to be much more successful than others using the same weapons, loadouts and field updates.
- Don’t underestimate any stray zombies, as, for the most part, that zombie you chose to leave alive while exploring nearby buildings or while using devices like the Pack-a-Punch or Arsenal Machine will end up killing you. While these unique zombies manage to join a herd, you will be surprised at how easy it is to be caught off guard and quickly surrounded.
Melee zombies during the initial difficulty levels to get bonus points
Much like the standard Zombies mode, Outbreak offers additional points for melee zombies; while it’s not a huge bonus, any additional points when you’re starting out will help you unlock updates faster.
Remember that stabbing zombies is not necessarily an effective strategy after difficulty two, unless you have managed to earn enough points to justify the strike of a combat knife of green or higher rarity. Although you will be able to hit a shot at most enemies with the update, you will fight against the elite and special zombies, which become much more frequent.
Alternatively, if you have to use a weapon, try to shoot yourself in the head, as this will also earn you additional points.
Teamwork makes the dream work
Success in Outbreak depends on teamwork. Without communication, your team will quickly become overwhelmed and completing goals will become significantly more difficult than necessary. So, if you’re playing with a random team or even a group of friends, be sure to speak up and start making coordinated calls that include asking for help, calling in loot chests, side activities and more.
If you’re struggling to succeed with random teams when your friends aren’t online, we recommend continuing with the dedicated Outbreak solo playlist. This will not only allow you to acquire some necessary practice, but it will make your overall experience with Outbreak much easier.
Steal everything possible
Do not rush into the different worlds, as it will be very beneficial to stay around and plunder the different areas that each map has to offer. This will become very clear when you start exploring each map, as you will begin to find loot chests hidden inside buildings and other random locations that contain everything from rare weapons, rescue, ammunition, armor and even consumables.Although these loot chests are not marked on your minimap, they can be found hearing a jingle-like noise, followed by a childish laugh. If you can hear this noise, it indicates that a loot chest can be found somewhere nearby.
However, these chests come in different levels of rarity, so don’t be surprised if you need to do some research before finding the chests of the rarest levels.
Buy armor as soon as possible
As you open more and more loot boxes, you quickly start to accumulate an impressive collection of saved items. You will want to make full use of this scrap by purchasing armor from the Arsenal machines that can be found throughout the map.
These machines are red and gray and feature a standing mannequin that wears armor. As you progress through the waves and different regions, the game will start to visibly increase in difficulty, and the armor will be a must if you plan to survive.
Armor is not the only upgrade you can buy, since you can also buy weapon damage, which we found to be more powerful than Packing your weapons. Although armor should always be your priority, we definitely recommend upgrading your weapon’s damage as soon as you have enough points to spend.
Vehicles are not just for traveling from point A to point B
Although vehicles like the Sedan and Light Truck make exploring the big maps of Outbreak much easier, they are also extremely useful for taking down hordes of zombies. Although they will eventually be damaged over time, finding a new vehicle for you and your team shouldn’t be a big hassle as we find that they often appear on different maps.In addition, if you want to take down at least 100 zombies with your vehicle, you will complete a Dark Ops challenge. If you complete all nine challenges, you will unlock a unique “Gray Matter” epic sniper rifle design.
