10 shot dead at supermarket in Boulder, Colorado

An armed man opened fire at a Colorado supermarket on Monday, killing 10 people, including a police officer, officials said. A person was arrested at the scene in Boulder, where police said there was no threat to the public.

Boulder’s police chief, Maris Herold, identified the murdered policeman as Eric Talley, 51, who has worked in the department since 2010.

Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty said Talley’s life was “cut too short” and said a “meticulous investigation is already underway”.

No other victims have been identified.

Dougherty said the person in custody was the sniper.

Images from the CBS Denver helicopter captured authorities escorting a shirtless handcuffed man who appeared to have a bleeding leg from the scene, but authorities have not confirmed whether the man is the person in custody.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene when several loud bangs exploded in the store. One man said he first thought someone had dropped something, but on the third shot, he said, everyone started running.

“I can’t believe what is happening in Boulder,” he told CBS Denver.
