Ten people were killed on Monday when an armed man opened fire at a supermarket in Boulder, Colorado. One person was arrested in connection with the shooting and authorities said there was no continuing threat to the public.

One of the victims was identified as 51-year-old police officer Eric Talley.

Police said the person concerned was injured and is being treated at the hospital. Previously, images of CBS Denver helicopters showed officials escorting a shirtless handcuffed man who appeared to have a bleeding leg from the scene, but at a news conference on Monday night, authorities did not confirm whether that man was the person of interest.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene when several loud bangs exploded in the supermarket. One man said he first thought someone had dropped something inside the store – but on the third shot, he said, everyone started running.

“I can’t believe what is happening in Boulder,” he told CBS Denver.

The parking lot outside the store was filled with police vehicles, police and first responders who rushed to the scene on Monday afternoon. At 2:49 pm local time, the Boulder Police Department residents warned of an active sniper on Twitter.

Governor Jared Polis tweeted, “Like my fellow Coloradans, I am watching events at King Soopers in Boulder closely. My prayers are with our fellow Coloradans in this time of sadness and grief, as we learn more about the extent of the tragedy.”
