10 of the most anticipated TV shows to watch in 2021

We are not sure how much to approach 2021, but the next TV list gives us reason to hope.

Despite delays related to the pandemic, tons of programs are being launched and returning in the new year – giving those of us still socially distant a lot to examine. Impeachment: American Crime Story, Tuca & Bertie Season 2, Prime Video’s Lord of the Rings series, HBO Max’s Gossip Girl restart, and many other interesting projects are underway now.

What do we know we will be watching as soon as possible? Here are our top 10 picks for the most anticipated TV shows to see in 2021. (Yes, there is Marvel here. Lots from Marvel.)

1 Mister Perfect, NBC (January 7)

Loved by NBC The good place finally crossed in 2020. Fortunately, a new comedy by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock must fill the hole the size of Ted Danson that he left in our hearts. Mister Perfect stars Danson as Ned, a retired businessman who runs for mayor of Los Angeles on a whim – and wins. With a charming trailer, a killer supporting cast and a confirmed January 7 release date, Mister Perfect it looks like a safe bet for a new favorite program in 2021. – Alison Foreman, entertainment reporter

two WandaVision, Disney + (January 15)

2020 will be remembered for many things, including being the first year without new Marvel films since 2008. Fortunately, the MCU resumes in January with WandaVision, the first of many, many new to Disney +. The show’s marketing has been enigmatic, sparking a reality-changing genre story about Wanda Maximoff, apparently reviving the late hero Vision in a series of episodes that mimic different eras of television programming. – Alexis Nedd, senior entertainment reporter

3 – The equalizer, CBS (February 7)

Justice has a new face when The equalizer returns to TV in 2021. This time, Queen Latifah will take on the role of the retired secret agent who dedicates her life to solving the problems of others with the characteristic talent of Equalizer. And by talent, we mean “creative violence elevated to an art form”. Everything is a weapon when The Equalizer enters a room, and anyone who is causing problems for their customers should look after their back, their front, the floor, and also check that the roof is secure. – A

4 The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Disney + (March)

The second Marvel show coming to Disney + in 2021 is The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, an action thriller starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan as two members of Team Cap in a post-Cap world. The trailer for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier causes a threat to Captain America’s legacy, a mysterious group of masked criminals and a reluctant partnership between Sam and Bucky to save the day, with or without a shield. – A

5 Loki, Disney + (May)

Loki’s death in Avengers: Infinity War spawned thousands of fan theories about how the MCU’s cheating god could have really pulled a fastball and survived. These theories were only partially right. Loki’s Loki at Disney + is a past version of Tom Hiddleston’s iconic antihero, plucked out of time by the events of Avengers: Endgame and embark on a whole new adventure in a far corner of the galaxy. What does this mean for Thor and the “corrected” MCU? I have to watch Loki in May to find out. – A

6 Love is blind Season 2, Netflix (TBA)

There wasn’t much that happened in 2020 that we really want to repeat. But of course, it’s outrageous from Netflix Love is blind you should feel free to come back whenever you want. The high-tech, simple-logic dating program presented by Vanessa and Nick Lachey introduced the magical world of cocoon-based combination last February. We are still waiting for an official date for the second season, but rumors of the cast indicate that we may have a new line of singles with a tendency to drama soon. – AF

7 Schmigadoon!, Apple TV + (TBA)

Musical theater people: we will eat in 2021. The main course on the table is Schmigadoon!, an Apple TV + series about a pair of petty people who accidentally travel to a city where everyone behaves as if they were in a musical. Get ready for original songs, huge dance numbers and more Broadway troops than you can imagine. The stacked cast includes Cecily Strong, Aaron Tveit, Keegan Michael-Key, Ann Harada, Kristin Chenowith, Jane Krakowski and Alan Cumming, so you know that no one is messing with those live recorded vocals. – A

8 Succession Season 3, HBO (TBA)

America’s worst fictional family seems set for a comeback in 2021. The Roys produced a big scare at that father and son betrayal during the end of the second season, which aired on October 13, 2019 (also known as an entire life). But now that HBO’s satirical drama has resumed production, we can finally start waiting for answers about the future Logan, Kendall and all the well-adjusted Waystar RoyCo employees. Nothing is official yet, but our hopes are high. – AF

9 Atlanta Season 3, FX (TBA)

It's been * a * long time, Earn.

It’s been a * long * time, Earn.

Even later than Succession Session 3, Donald Glover is brilliant Atlanta will make its triumphant return in 2021, after a hiatus of almost three years. In September, FX executives confirmed both Atlanta Seasons 3 and 4 would be shot consecutively earlier this year, and Season 3 should air in 2021. Narratively, we’re not speculating where this series is going, but damn, if we’re not excited to see what Glover came up with about the pandemic. – AF

10 Boba Fett’s Book, Disney + (December)

Boba Fett’s triumphant return in The Mandalorian Season 2 was easily one of the best TV moments of 2020. Temuera Morrison’s concise, blunt and surprisingly funny approach to the iconic bounty hunter seemed perfect for a solo show, and The Mandalorian finale delivered on that promise. Boba Fett’s Book, co-starring Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand, opens in December 2021. – A

Aaaaahhhh! It’s the one where they get together for HBO Max !! After years of speculation about when, how and if the Friends cast would never return to our screens, fans of the 90s sitcom can rejoice in the promise of a launch window. In November, star Matthew Perry confirmed that HBO Max’s Friends the reunion special (scheduled for early 2020, but delayed due to the pandemic) has been officially set to start shooting in early 2021. The details are sparse, but all six members of the main cast will be there for you. When the rain starts to fall, as if they were there before, etc. – AF
