10 observations: Kevin Lankinen, Blackhawks tied the Red Wings for the third consecutive victory

The Blackhawks eliminated the Detroit Red Wings 2-0 on Wednesday at Little Caesars Arena.

Here are 10 observations of victory:

1 Coach Jeremy Colliton had 11 attackers and seven defenders again, which he did several times this season. Adam Boqvist and Ryan Carpenter returned to the roster after losing in the past few weeks while in the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol and Reese Johnson and Lucas Wallmark left.

two Kevin Lankinen started at the Blackhawks’ goal and resumed where he left off on Saturday, stopping all 29 shots he faced for his first NHL shutout. And he did it on national television. How appropriate.

3 – Lankinen also contributed on the scoresheet, registering an assist secondary to Philipp Kurashev’s goal in the first period. This is his second assist of the season, with his first coming in Pius Suter’s extra-time goal on February 9 in Dallas. Anton Khudobin is the only other goalkeeper this season with more than one point.

4 – The Red Wings generated 13 shots, 10 shots on goal and six chances on three power-play opportunities, but Lankinen held on and was the best ice scorer for the Blackhawks. The Red Wings are now 0 out of 29 in power play in the last 10 games.

5 Kurashev scored one of the best goals of the 2020-21 season after maneuvering to pass three Red Wings and then slip into the goalkeeper. It was his fifth goal of the season, which ranks second among all NHL rookies.

6 Alex DeBrincat had a great first period. He had five shooting attempts, three shots on goal, two shots on the net, two takeaways, two controlled outs, a chance to score in the rush and 0:21 time in possession of the offensive zone, according to Sportlogiq. DeBrincat was rewarded with an empty net goal at the end, marking the ninth mark of the season.

7 At 4:18 of the uniform strength time in the first period, Boqvist was on the ice for nine attempts for and zero against and six chances for a goal and zero against, according to the Natural Stat Trick. He finished with four attempts at shooting (two on goal) in 12:50 of the ice time, and was really solid on his return.

8 The Blackhawks were crushed in the showdown, losing 15 of 47 draws to a success rate of just 31.9 percent. Dylan Strome and Suter were a combination of 2 to 13 (15.4 percent). Luke Glendening, who is the league’s best head-to-head specialist, won 10 of his 11 head-to-head matches for the Red Wings.

9 The Blackhawks did not register a single 5-on-5 high danger chance in the first two periods. They had two in uniform strength and one in the game of strength, but not 5 against 5. They ended up with two in total, equaling the low of the season that happened at the opening of the season against Tampa Bay.

10 Patrick Kane had another strong game for the Blackhawks. He recorded four attempts at kicking, three shots on goal (all from the slot machine), one primary assist and 10 controlled exits, the best of the game, and 1:09 of possession time in the offensive zone.
