5 apps to help you eat healthy during quarantine
Eating healthy is difficult at the best of times. Here are some apps that can make it easier to maintain a healthy diet while we’re all stuck at home.

Ah, January, the time of year when diet books populate bestseller lists, when many of us decided to eat better to lose weight. But this year, we want to not only lose the holiday pounds, but also the pandemic pounds. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, many Americans have placed what is known as Quarantine 15.
On Monday, the US News & World Report released its annual ranking of the best general diets and the Mediterranean Diet topped the list for the fourth consecutive year. But, according to the USA TODAY list of bestselling books, the Mediterranean diet, which guides people to eat lots of plants and foods with a low “bad” cholesterol content, doesn’t even make it into the Top 10.

So, which diet books are Americans turning to? We’ve looked at the 10 most popular books on diet and weight loss in the past decade, according to the USA TODAY bestseller list:
1. “The Whole30: The 30-Day Guide to Total Health and Food Freedom, “by Melissa Hartwig, Dallas Hartwig. There is no calorie counting or food weighing. Instead, dieters are given a restricted diet, mostly high in protein, in which foods are slowly reintroduced over time.
2. “The 17-day diet: a medical plan designed for quick results“by Mike Moreno. Another diet that restricts what you eat, eliminating sugar, grains, fruits and dairy products to speed up metabolism.
3. “10-day green smoothie cleaning: lose up to 15 pounds in 10 days!,“by JJ Smith. The diet is designed to” boost “weight loss through green vitamins made from supernutrients found in vegetables and fruits.
4. “Wheat belly: lose wheat, lose weight and find your way back to health,“by William Davis. Davis proposes that by eliminating wheat from our diets, we can prevent fat storage, lumps and reverse health problems.
5. “Eat for a living: the incredible nutrient-rich program for quick and sustained weight loss, revised edition, “by Joel Fuhrman. The diet states that a high ratio of nutrients to calories in the foods you eat can cause you to lose weight, because the more nutrient-rich foods you eat, the less you crave fats, sweets and foods with high calorie content.

6. “The complete ketogenic diet for beginners: your essential guide to living the ketone lifestyle,“by Amy Ramos. The ketogenic diet is the most recent diet to make noise. The book explains what a ketogenic diet is (tip: low in carbohydrates, high in fat) and offers an eating plan that includes recipes.
7. “The paradox of plants: the hidden dangers in ‘healthy’ foods that cause disease and weight gain,“by Steven R. Gundry. According to Gundry, it is not just gluten that is the enemy, but all varieties of plant proteins called lectins that are the real culprits. And they are found not just in grains, but in a variety gluten – free food.
8. “The 20/20 Diet: Make Your Weight Loss Vision a Reality”, by Phil McGraw. The psychologist and the television personality identify several reasons why many diets fail, while offering several solutions, including getting dieticians to start eating 20 essential foods.
9. “Dukan’s diet: 2 steps to lose weight, 2 steps to keep it off forever, ”By Pierre Dukan. The four-stage diet rejects calorie counting and weighing food while encouraging supporters to eat unlimited amounts of allowed foods, such as lean protein, selected eggs and vegetables.
10. “The 4-Hour Body: An Uncommon Guide to Rapid Fat-Loss, Incredible Sex, and Becoming Superhuman,“by Timothy Ferriss. While promising more than just weight loss in its title, this diet book features simple meals, a restricted diet and allowing for a weekly day of cheating.
