FLEMING ISLAND, Florida. – One person died after a vehicle hit a holding tank on Fleming Island on Sunday morning, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
The Florida Highway Patrol website shows that soldiers were called in at about 3:25 am for the fatal accident at Neptune Park, near Thunderbolt Road.
The Sheriff’s Office said his dive team responded. In addition, Clay County Fire and Rescue was on site.
Late in the morning, a tow truck pulled the car, a silver four-door Nissan Altima, from the holding tank.
Several neighbors told News4Jax that they often hear cars running on Thunderbolt Road leading to the park where the lake is located. They said that on Sunday, around 2 am, it was no different.
“They just run up and down the street, and it’s very scary,” said a neighbor, who declined to be identified. “It is right behind the school and there are many young children in this community.”
The Highway Police is leading the investigation.
