1 dead, another seriously wounded in a vehicle shot near Goleta | Local News

Emergency personnel responded on Thursday afternoon after two people were found shot in a vehicle near Goleta.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Lt. Erik Raney of the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department

Sheriff’s deputies, county firefighters and AMR ambulances were dispatched shortly after 12:30 pm to Block 600 on Burtis Street, near Hollister Elementary School.

They found two victims in a vehicle, a state-of-the-art Audi sedan, Raney said.

The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver was rushed to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

Police officers set up a perimeter around the scene and were looking for a single suspect who escaped on foot, Raney said.

He added that the suspect – described as a white man in his 20s with dark hair, possibly wearing jeans and a gray shirt – is considered “armed and dangerous”.

A helicopter from the sheriff and K-9 teams were also reportedly brought in to assist in the search.

Meanwhile, an on-site shelter application was being issued to residents south of Hollister Avenue, between Patterson Avenue and Turnpike Road.

The neighborhood involved returns to Atascadero Creek and then More Mesa, and the police were searching the area for a suspect.

The shooting was reported by a young man who ran to the Hollister School office, Raney said.

Additional details were not immediately available.
