Patton had been vice president of the Eric Trump Foundation and allegedly planned Eric Trump’s wedding before his appointment to an important position at the HUD, where he regularly received criticism for making political statements about the job.
She had been involved with Hatch Law complaints before. The same Office of Special Counsel rebuked her in 2019 for using her official government Twitter account to promote political tweets and display a red “USA” cap sold by the Trump campaign in her office.
In early 2019, she posted on Facebook that “honestly [didn’t] matter more ”if she was violating the Hatch Act with her tweets.
Noah Bookbinder, president of the ethics group that filed the complaint, called the job ban “rewarding”.
“Even in an administration marked by a breach of ethics laws, Lynne Patton stood out,” Bookbinder said in an e-mailed statement on Tuesday. “What made her behavior particularly striking was that she not only used her position for political purposes, she deceived and exploited public housing residents for political gain, showing little regard for the people she was supposed to help and the ethical rules she was supposed to be following . “
