Nevada on Thursday reported 444 new cases of coronavirus and 12 additional deaths, according to data from the Department of Health and Human Services.
The updated figures published on the state’s coronavirus website have brought a total of 302,171 cases and 5,215 deaths since the pandemic began.
Although daily increases in cases have recently fallen, Thursday was the biggest one-day increase in new cases in almost two weeks, since 858 new cases were reported on March 12, according to records maintained by the Review-Journal.
New cases on Thursday were well above the 14-day moving average of daily reported cases, which dropped to 193. Deaths were also well above the two-week moving average of daily reported fatalities, which remained at four.
Both averages, however, maintain the downward trend that started in mid-January.
Data Guide: Impact of COVID-19 in Nevada
State and local health agencies often redistribute daily data after it is reported to better reflect the date of death or onset of symptoms, which is why the moving average trend lines often differ from daily reports and are considered to be better indicators of the direction of the outbreak.
The state’s two-week positivity rate, which basically tracks the percentage of people tested for COVID-19 who are infected, decreased 0.1 percentage point to 4.5 percent.
There are 273 people hospitalized in Nevada with confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19, which is 28 fewer than the day before, according to state data.
Clark County on Thursday reported 195 new cases of coronavirus and seven additional deaths, according to data published on the Southern Nevada Health District website.
The cumulative totals for the county reached 233,305 cases and 4,079 deaths.
The county’s positivity rate also decreased 0.1 percentage point, corresponding to the state’s 4.5 percent rate.
