Jeremy Fowler recently detailed the main free agency moves for each NFL team in an article for ESPN. What did he think of the San Francisco 49ers? While the team reinforced the offensive line with the rehiring of Trent Williams and the addition of Alex Mack and re-hired top players such as defender Kyle Juszczyk and cornerback Jason Verrett, the ESPN writer seems to have hoped for a change to reinforce another position.
“The 49ers are up to something like a quarterback,” wrote Fowler. “They had extensive conversations with (Joe) Flacco, who got along with Kyle Shanahan during a visit last week before choosing Philly.”
San Francisco was also reportedly in the mix for Andy Dalton before the Chicago Bears signed the quarterback. Fowler reports that the team talked to Mitch Trubisky’s representatives before he joined Buffalo Bills. It seems that the 49ers are trying to improve reserve positions behind starter Jimmy Garoppolo, who lost 10 games last season due to ankle injuries and 23 games in the past three seasons.
Fowler adds this nugget: “Rumors persist that Jacksonville quarterback Gardner Minshew II could be in his plans via trade.”
RELATED 49ers must negotiate for an AFC South quarterback
Although the “rumors” do not point to the reported interest, it is an interesting statement. Minshew has 20 games of initial experience in his two seasons in the NFL, shot 5,530 yards with 37 touchdowns with 11 interceptions during that period, and is scheduled to win $ 850,000 in earnings this season. This is a bargain for an experienced reserve quarterback.
Minshew started eight games last season, but the Jaguars are expected to call Trevor Lawrence with the No. 1 overall choice.
As for the possibility of upgrading from Garoppolo, there are not many options now out of a dream or two possible.
“Watson would be one (option), of course,” added Fowler. “But it is unlikely to be a hard blow to negotiate. So for now, San Francisco can focus on expanding the quarterback room and adjusting from there.”

49ers Kyle Juszczyk believes Jimmy Garoppolo will use the ballot as motivation

Jimmy Garoppolo started in the Super Bowl. His record is 24-9 as a full-back for the San Francisco 49ers – including the playoffs. However, no matter how many times the team says that Garoppolo should be the defender in 2021, there is still uncertainty about his future. Garoppolo, who has lost 23 games in the past three seasons, may have something to do with it. He lost 13 games in 2018 after suffering an ACL injury. The quarterback lost 10 last season due to ankle injuries. He lost almost as many games with the 49ers as he won, which led many to question his durability. Kyle Juszczyk, newly hired by 49ers, joined SiriusXM on Tuesday and was asked about his quarterback and the scrutiny he suffered. That is

The news was released on Thursday that the San Francisco 49ers were welcoming quarterback Joe Flacco on a visit. The team considers him a reserve veteran of Jimmy Garoppolo, who lost 10 games last season due to injuries. Flacco spent 11 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens before spending a season with the Denver Broncos and the New York Jets in the past two years. Could San Francisco be Flacco’s final stop on his NFL career? He has a lot of experience. He won a Super Bowl – unfortunately, against the 49ers – and was named the game’s MVP. A former teammate, defender Kyle Juszczyk, is hopeful that a meeting with Flacco may be taking place. He even admits to doing a little recruiting on behalf of the 49ers and says that Flacco is excited about the

Daniel Jeremiah feels that Sam Darnold could benefit from a new start with 49ers

NFL Media recruiting analyst Daniel Jeremiah took a look at quarterback combinations with NFL teams, now that the free agency’s initial frenzy has passed. Obviously, he has Trevor Lawrence going to the Jacksonville Jaguars with the No. 1 choice in the overall draft. He also hopes that Zach Wilson will land with Robert Saleh and the New York Jets with the next team. That would make the current Jets quarterback Sam Darnold expendable. Where does Jeremiah see as a good fit for general choice # 3? The San Francisco 49ers. Jeremiah notes that Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos also make a lot of sense. Still, none of these teams are well built to win now
