And now, for some high definition video game pores

Have you ever played a video game and thought to yourself, “Man, I would like to stop shooting this enemy in the face and, instead, enjoy my character’s skin on an almost microscopic level”? Well, good news, Buffalo Bill. Atomic Heart, the open-world first-person shooter that looks Soviet BioShock, you are covered.

At least, that’s the case when it comes to the game’s photo mode. In the trailer above, you can see the camera in real time delight in the model of a character so deeply that you can distinguish every piece of stubble. Hell, you can even examine the model’s oily skin. It is as if we are about to blow some carnations here. As strange as it may seem, I am enjoying the way video games portray realistic bodily functions, whether they are clogged pores in this specific case or perhaps more convincing drops of sweat.

There is also a bit of history in this trailer. Apparently, the USSR is about to take a big technological leap that, in some way, will allow them to rule out the evils of capitalism. Everyone is about to get a sinister vaccination, says the radio announcer, while the trailer reveals that while you were busy examining that character’s nose, pandemonium broke out.

According to the game’s new website, the machines of this world have rebelled against humanity. Your job is to eliminate the new threat before confidential information from that serious oopsie is revealed to the rest of the world.

Atomic Heart is being developed for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Windows PC. No release date has been set.
