CHESTER COUNTY, SC (TCD) –
A South Carolina man was arrested for allegedly neglecting his father’s health, resulting in his death, hiding the man’s body in a closet for weeks and using money for drugs.
Chester County sheriff’s assistants responded to a report about a corpse at a Boyd Road residence on Sunday, March 14.
Arriving officers found Clyde Shirley, 75, dead at the scene. Investigators said Shirley died around February 25, 2021. Shirley’s son reportedly did not report the man’s death.
Sheriff’s delegates and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division investigators claim that Clyde Shirley’s son, William Shirley, 34, “placed his father’s body in a closet at the residence. The body remained in the closet until the police arrived home. “
Investigators claim that William Shirley “neglected basic care for his father, who was in poor health”. The cause of Clyde Shirley’s death was not disclosed.
The investigators determined that “William was a regular drug user and used his father’s money to support his drug addiction,” said the sheriff’s office.
