Lamar Jackson had a low season in 2020 after his MVP campaign the year before, and there are a number of reasons for that. According to Dez Bryant, the primaries are not Jackson’s fault.
Bryant, who signed with the Ravens in the middle of last season, sent an interesting tweet on Saturday, about the way Jackson fought in 2020. The wide receiver said that criticism of Jackson bothers him after Dez saw firsthand “what he has to deal with”.
“All of this hatred for Lamar is starting to get on my nerves … I just know that I could see firsthand what he has to deal with … him being able to play QB is far from the problem,” wrote Bryant .
Bryant did not elaborate, but some fans speculated that he may be referring to the Baltimore offensive scheme. If you remember, Jackson made some comments in the middle of the season that indicated that he felt that the Ravens’ attack had become very predictable. You can see what he said here.
Jackson and Ravens’ offensive coordinator, Greg Roman, looked like a perfect match in 2019, but the defenders seemed to understand them last season. This could complicate contract negotiations between Jackson and the team.
Even in a “low” year, Jackson still launched 26 touchdown passes, compared to just nine interceptions. He also ran for more than 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns. Most people agree that Baltimore needs a game receiver, but coach John Harbaugh says he will not overdo it when trying to recruit one.
