Twitter said on Friday that it had mistakenly suspended the account of Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., Who faces pressure from dozens of House Democrats to expel her from Congress.

The social media giant, which had previously suspended the account of the lawmaker adopting the conspiracy, said the most recent blockade was lifted.

“We use a combination of technology and human review to enforce Twitter Rules across the service,” a company spokesman told CNBC in a statement.

“In this case, our automated systems have taken enforcement action on the mentioned account by mistake,” said the statement. “This action has been reversed and access to the account has been restored.”

Greene, who had previously promoted the unfounded pro-Trump QAnon conspiracy and supported calls for violence against Democrats, said on Friday in a campaign message that Twitter suspended his account at around 1 am “without explanation”.

Greene’s account was set up to be blocked for 12 hours, according to the campaign message.

Greene’s office did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment on Twitter’s statement that the suspension was committed in error.

Twitter had temporarily suspended Greene in January for spreading misinformation.

Greene’s office raised suspicions about the timing of the social media giant’s last action, which took place hours before Dep. Jimmy Gomez, D-Calif., Filed a resolution to expel Greene from Congress.

There was no immediate evidence to support these suspicions, but Greene repeated them on Friday from his newly restored account.

Gomez said on Friday morning in the House plenary that “I believe that some of my Republican colleagues, and one in particular, want damage to this legislative body.”

“I’m not saying that to shock you,” said Gomez. “It is the conclusion that I drew after a member of Congress defended violence against our peers, the mayor and our government.”

A Gomez spokesman told CNBC that 72 House Democrats co-sponsored his one-page resolution, which simply states that “under Article 1, section 5, clause 2 of the United States Constitution, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, that is, and she is hereby expelled from the House of Representatives. “

Co-sponsors include Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York, Eric Swalwell and Maxine Waters from California and Joaquin Castro from Texas.

Gomez on Friday directly linked Greene’s most controversial previous statements, many of which were made before she took office, to the deadly invasion of the Capitol on January 6 by a crowd of supporters of former President Donald Trump.

“That’s what I believed after this chamber was turned into a crime scene just 10 weeks ago. It’s how many of us felt sheltered in this room when the Capitol was violated. Some members called their loved ones to say goodbye, others prayed to God, and I wondered if this was the day our democracy would die, “said Gomez.

“I am not happy to present this resolution, but any member who incites political violence and threatens our lives must be expelled, and I will do everything I can to protect our democracy and keep all my colleagues safe,” he said. .

Gomez in late January had shared plans to draft a resolution for Greene’s expulsion, saying at the time, “his presence in office poses a direct threat against elected officials and officials serving our government.”

In February, the House voted to remove Greene from his committee assignments. All Democrats and 11 Republicans supported this resolution.

Just before he passed, Greene expressed some regret at spreading false allegations of conspiracy, including QAnon and his reported suggestion that some school shootings had been staged.
