Letlow will take the place that her late husband Luke, who won last year’s election but died in December after being diagnosed with Covid-19, was never able to occupy.
She will make history as the first Republican woman to represent the state in Congress.
Several prominent Republicans joined her after she announced her campaign for the chair. Former President Donald Trump, Republican House leader Kevin McCarthy and Louisiana Republican Congressman Steve Scalise – the House’s second Republican – all endorsed her among the nine Republicans who ran for the seat.
Letlow, a candidate for the first time, will avoid a second round because she secured the majority among the 12-person camp.
This is a last-minute story and will be updated.
