Protesters burn face masks in Arizona

According to a local CBS affiliate, the group of people at the demonstration opposed the COVID-19 guidelines, including wearing a mask.

Health officials asked the public to wear masks to limit the spread of the virus. Still, the issue has become politically divisive in the United States, unlike many other countries that have seen much lower rates of infection and death.

Former President of the United States, Donald Trump, downplayed the need for restrictions on coronavirus, including the use of masks, and predicted that the pathogen would disappear “like a miracle”.

According to the Coronavirus Resource Center at Johns Hopkins University, the state of Arizona recorded 1,634 deaths and 33,975 new cases of COVID-19 just last month.

The coronavirus has killed more than 530,000 people in the United States, more than any other country.
