Disco Elysium: Final classification was declined in Australia

Switch owners will not receive Disco Elysium: The Final Cut until this summer, but there are already problems ahead for Australian players. Launched on March 30 for PlayStation and Stadia owners, the Australian government refused to classify it, which prohibits sales in the country.

They did not specify exactly why Disco Elysium was refused a rating, and ZA / UM has not yet responded publicly about it. However, considering that the main game mechanics include drugs and alcohol, we can accept our guesses, and the Australian Classification Board issued this statement:

The computer game is classified as RC … as computer games that portray, express or otherwise deal with issues of sex, drug misuse or addiction, crime, cruelty, violence or repulsive or disgusting phenomena in such a way that they offend the standards of morality, decency and property generally accepted by reasonable adults, insofar as they should not be classified.

It is important to note that this could potentially be an error on the part of the Classification Board. In November, Bloober Team’s The medium it was also refused classification in Australia, although in that case it was dropped not long before launch, and received a rating of R18 +.

With the release of the Switch months away, there is plenty of time for that decision to be reevaluated, but PlayStation owners will not be so lucky. We will keep you informed as we receive more details.
