New study found the happiest country in the world

Since the coronavirus has shaken the lives of just about everyone in the past year, an annual report is revealing which countries are the happiest in the world.

World happiness Report 2021 crowned Finland as the happiest nation of the year for the fourth consecutive year among 149 countries, followed by Iceland and Denmark.

Switzerland and the Netherlands completed the first five places, while the United States moved from 18th to 14th place.

Meanwhile, the UK fell from 13th to 18th, while Australia maintained 12th. Afghanistan appears at the bottom of the list, with Zimbabwe ranked 148th and Rwanda ranked 147th.

This year’s annual report conducted by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network has been compiled slightly differently due to the coronavirus pandemic. The researchers were unable to conduct face-to-face interviews in several countries and decided to focus the report on the relationship between well-being and COVID-19.

Previous reports were mainly based on levels of GDP, life expectancy, generosity, social support, freedom and other factors.

“This entire report focuses on the effects of COVID-19 and how people around the world fared,” said the team behind the report.

“Our goal was twofold, first to focus on the effects of COVID-19 on people’s structure and quality of life and, second, to describe and assess how governments around the world have dealt with the pandemic.”

Although there were some changes to this year’s list, the ratings were similar, despite the unprecedented and challenging year.

“Surprisingly, there was, on average, no decline in well-being when measured by people’s own assessment of their lives,” said John Helliwell, a professor at the University of British Columbia who contributed to the report, in a demonstration.

“One possible explanation is that people see COVID-19 as a common external threat that affects everyone and has generated a greater sense of solidarity and solidarity,” he said.
