The first general choice in the South Carolina NFL Draft is a free agent again and Jadeveon Clowney is still looking for a new home. Clowney, who starred in Gamecocks for three seasons, has just finished his first season with the Tennessee Titans and he has the ability to move on and play for his third franchise other than the NFL.
Clowney began his career at the Houston Texans, where he spent the 2014-18 seasons before playing for the Seattle Seahawks the following year. After a season in the Pacific Northwest, the defender of the tip landed in the City of Music.

Clowney is considered the No. 11 free agent remaining on the market by the Pro Football Focus evaluators. Here’s what they wrote about the great Gamecock:
As with any free agent subscription, the key is to understand what a player is bringing to the table. Clowney has elite tools, but he was never an elite pass-rusher, as he posted a passing score in the 70s in each of the past three years and a 69.6 mark in 2020. Sack totals will fluctuate from year to year, so don’t let that change the narrative: Clowney is a good, not great, pass-rusher. He does his best job in the racing game, using these elite tools and heavy hands to win at the point of attack. Since joining the league, Clowney has been a staunch defender of the 95th percentile and a pass-rusher of the 77th percentile, so his future team should expect similar snap-to-snap production right now.
Contract Analysis: Clowney’s offseason roller coaster was much more interesting than anything he has done during the season so far, and it looks like we can once again be in a long saga awaiting his team in 2021. There is probably a decent chance that a big chasm exists again between what Clowney thinks he’s worth and what the NFL teams are willing to pay, but he had at least four suitors we met last time, so there’s always a market for general first choice.
