The Giants on Wednesday made a move to bolster their passing race, signing Ifeadi Odenigbo for a year worth $ 2.5 million.
Odenigbo, 26, is a 6-foot-tall, 258-pound defensive player who has 10.5 bags in his career – all in the past two seasons. He had seven bags for the Vikings in 2019 as a situation passer. His first career layoff, in Week 5 of that season, was against Daniel Jones and the Giants at MetLife Stadium.
With a starting job in 2020, he had only 3.5 sacks in 15 matches – although he had a career record of 15 quarterback strokes. He was born in Bayonne, NJ, went to high school in Ohio and played ball at college in Northwestern.
The Vikings decided not to offer Odenigbo, a restricted free agent. He was chosen in 2017 by Minnesota for the seventh round of the draft. He had brief stays with the Browns and Cardinals before returning to the Vikings.
This signing fits with what the Giants are likely to continue to look for in the free agency – young, healthy players with an advantage they believe can fit well into their scheme.
