Texas native Matthew McConaughey is talking about Governor Gregory Abbott’s decision to suspend the state’s mask mandate while the coronavirus pandemic continues.
The Oscar-winning actor appeared as a guest on Wednesday’s episode of “CBS This Morning” to talk about his latest benefit for Texans whose lives were severely affected by last month’s deadly winter storm.
In discussing the consequences of the storm, McConaughey answered a question about the governor’s decision to suspend the state’s mask mandate, which took place earlier this month.
“My reaction to that is that I was a little perplexed by the decision,” said McConaughey. “I understand ‘going back to work’. What I didn’t understand was the ‘mask-pulling mandate’. “

McConaughey emphasized that wearing a face mask is “just a minor inconvenience” that can help save lives. He also suggested that it may not be the face coverings that so many across the country are discussing.
“I just want to remember, not just Texans, but everyone out there, it’s not the mask we’re afraid of, let’s go. It is the word ‘mandate’. Let’s not let the word ‘mandate’ get in the way of the practical use of this little tool called a mask. It’s just a minor inconvenience today for more freedom tomorrow, “said McConaughey.
With the understanding that it is now the Texans’ “choice” whether they wear masks or not to prevent the spread of COVID-19, McConaughey begged “people around the world” to cover up.

“If you have a choice, keep masking yourself. It’s proven to help. We don’t have much more time on this, let’s get over it. Thank you,” said the star.

McConaughey’s criticism of Governor Abbott’s decision is interesting, given that the actor recently discussed whether he ran for office one day at his home. He did it again on Wednesday, noting that it is still a possibility.
“As I said before, I’m thinking about it,” McConaughey said to the hosts. “I would be a fool if I didn’t. It is a very honorable thing to consider what that position would mean, what it would be for me, what it would mean for the people of Texas. I have to decide for myself which category I can be in. more useful in life from here. “

Whether he is in charge or not, McConnaughey is preparing to help other Texans in the wake of the devastating winter storm by offering a charity event this Sunday. Called “Somos Texas”, artists like Kelly Clarkson, Willie Nelson, Kacey Musgraves and others are scheduled to participate.
It’s an event that McConaughey helped organize, but only thanks to his wife, Camila Alves McConaughey, whom he says he had the idea for.
“Camila came and knocked on my door and said, ‘Do you see what’s going on here?’”, Recalls McConaughey. “She’s protecting me. I hung my head, got people together to work.”

McConaughey said he immediately picked up the phone immediately with Texas companies, athletes and stars who call home in Texas to see if they could help.
“We are happy where we are, with a lot of help from many people, in Texas and beyond,” he said.
