CLEVELAND, Ohio – The NFL trading period started on Monday, and the early hours were quiet for the Browns.
They handed over receiver KhaDarel Hodge and expressed interest in some players, but did not immediately reach an agreement with any big-name free agent. However, there is still a long time. Teams cannot close deals before the start of the league year on Wednesday at 4pm, and a lot will happen by then.
Meanwhile, several renowned pioneers flew out of the market in the early hours. Shaquil Barrett again signed with the Bucs for four years, $ 72 million, and Romeo Okwara again signed with Lions for three years, $ 39 million. Matt Judon, a former Ravens rusher, agreed with the Patriots on a $ 56 million four-year contract, including $ 32 million in the first two years.

Browns Tender WR KhaDarel Hodge
The Browns gave Hodge the right of first refusal on the offer, a league source told cleveland.com, which is the smallest of the four proposals. It is worth $ 2.133 million in 2021 if they do not reach a multi-year agreement before that. Browns can also release Hodge if they have a surplus of receivers.
Browns can match any offer, but will not receive compensation if someone else signs it.
Soft Browns KhaDarel Hodge
As to what this means for free agent Rashard Higgins, this remains to be seen. The Browns would like to sign a one-year contract with Higgins, a source told cleveland.com, but he may receive a better offer. If he can potentially settle down for the rest of his life, he will have to accept that deal.

Browns expresses interest in Saints’ devastating Trey Hendrickson
Cleveland.com has been reporting for weeks that Hendrickson is one of the Browns’ radar pass-rushers at the free agency.
Just after the start of the trading period at noon on Monday, NFL reporter Josina Anderson tweeted that the Browns, Vikings and Jets showed interest.
They are not the only ones. A source told cleveland.com that “many teams” called to talk about Hendrickson in the first two hours of the trading period. No wonder why. A third round pick in 2017, he drew Aaron Donald for second place in the NFL with 13.5 sacks in 2020.

Browns reportedly expressed interest in Rams S John Johnson
The Browns expressed interest on Monday for Rams’ fifth-year safety, John Johnson III, a third-round pick in 2017 from Boston College, according to Senior CBS Sports NFL reporter Jonathan Jones.
Lions, Eagles and Jaguars are also interested, according to Jones.
The Browns are definitely looking for depth in high school and can hire one or two free agents. I wrote that Jets nickel cornerback Brian Pool is on their radar, and there are others. The Browns are counting on security Grant Delpit (Achilles tear) and cornerback Greedy Williams (nerve injury to his shoulder) to start for them in 2021, but they will continue to increase.
