There is a iPhone 13 rumors that keep popping up, and we hope it’s true. A new report states that the fingerprint sensor that disappeared from Apple phones with the iPhone X in 2017 will make a comeback with the iPhone 13.
Not only will the Touch ID be present on the iPhone 13, but the Barclays report states that it will also be under the phone’s screen.
This is not the first time we’ve heard rumors of a Touch ID return. Bloomberg published a similar report in January. But the Barclays report’s claims are based on conversations with several suppliers in recent weeks.
The addition of a scanner below the display for the Touch ID would mark a major change in terms of iPhone design. Since 2017, we have used Face ID to unlock our phones, something that has become less convenient now that we are wearing masks due to the coronavirus pandemic.
While Apple continues to avoid a fingerprint reader, rival phone makers have added sensors to the display. Samsung’s flagship phones, including the Galaxy S21, has a sensor on the display, as well as several other top-notch Android phones.
iPhone 13 to get a smaller notch
MacRumors says the research note by Barclays analyst Andrew Gardiner and three additional colleagues says the new iPhone 13 models will also come with a smaller notch. This should make the iPhone 13’s screens look more immersive.
According to Barclays analysts, the iPhone 13 will feature a “more integrated version of the current structured light system” to allow for notch reduction. The notch has remained much the same since it was launched on the iPhone X to house the sensors that make Face ID possible.
Furthermore, the LiDAR reader on the phone will remain an exclusive feature of the iPhone 13 Pro models, as well as on the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
With a smaller notch, additional security with Touch ID and Face ID and any additional features that Apple decides to introduce with the iPhone 13, the next generation of iPhones could innovate more than previous iterations. It will all boil down to what Apple presents in the coming months.
