Vaccination updates as Michigan prepares to expand eligibility for all adults

Almost a year after Michigan registered its first case of COVID-19 on March 10, 2020, just over 1 million residents have been fully vaccinated and health professionals across the state are preparing to expand vaccination eligibility for all adults.

On Friday, March 12, state officials announced that all Michiganders aged 16 and over will be eligible for vaccination from April 5.

That same day, state officials also expanded who would be eligible for an injection starting March 22.

Previously, anyone between the ages of 50 and 64 would become eligible for vaccination on March 22. Now, any resident aged 16 or over with a disability or medical conditions that would put them at greater risk will become eligible on that day.

As more people become eligible for the injection, state officials want vaccine providers to continue to prioritize those most at risk of exposure due to employment and those most vulnerable to a serious case of COVID-19.

Health departments across the state are gradually working on the previous stages of eligibility and have received positive forecasts about upcoming shipments.
