Kate Middleton brings flowers to the Sarah Everard memorial

Kate Middleton I paid a visit on Saturday to a memorial for Sarah Everard, the Londoner who was murdered last week on her way home from a friend’s apartment.

The Duchess of Cambridge made an unannounced stop at the Clapham Common bandstand, to add a bouquet to the memorial there.

Kensington Palace said Middleton “wanted to pay his respects to the family and Sarah,” reported SkyNews. “She remembers what it was like to walk around London at night before getting married.”

Everard’s murder started a new round of reckoning for the British on the safety of women.

Organizers hoped to hold a women’s security vigil at the memorial site on Saturday, but permission was denied because of the pandemic. Instead, London residents are being urged to turn on a light at their doors at 9:30 pm.
