The stage is set for the ACC Tournament championship game on Saturday, with 4th place in the ranking Georgia Tech will seek its first conference tournament title since 1993 against 2nd place in the state of Florida after a dramatic Friday in a tournament that was hit hard by the COVID-19 protocols.
With Virginia’s No. 1 seed removed from the key due to a positive COVID-19 test on Friday morning, the ACC tournament semifinal round was left with just one game. That game that was played managed to deliver as the Seminoles screeched a 69-66 victory over No. 6 seed North Carolina.
After securing a double bye in the tournament and then having its quarterfinal opponent, Duke, ousted for a COVID-19 issue, Florida State was playing for the first time this week, after which it resulted in a bye triple. In contrast, Tar Heels was playing his third game in three days. Still, UNC seemed to have plenty of energy left in the second half, while recovering from a 35-24 deficit in the interval.
Ultimately, the Seminoles survived when the Balsa Koprivica pivot scored 10 of his 17 points, the best of the game, in the second half, against the great quality men of the UNC. The victory should help the Seminoles recover some of the momentum lost during the defeat at Notre Dame that cost FSU the title of the regular season last Saturday.
