SALT LAKE CITY – The number of COVID-19 cases in Utah increased by 519 on Friday, with two more deaths and 30,300 vaccinations reported, according to the Utah Department of Health.
The state now estimates that there are 12,601 active cases of the disease in Utah. The average number of positive cases per day for seven days is now 519, according to the health department. The rate of positive test per day for that period of time reported with the “people over people” method is now 8.4%. The positive test rate per day, averaged over seven days, calculated using the “test on test” method is now 4%.
There are 184 patients with COVID-19 currently hospitalized in Utah, including 67 in intensive care, state data show. About 69% of beds in intensive care units in Utah are occupied, including about 72% of ICU beds in the state’s 16 referral hospitals, according to the health department. About 55% of hospital beds outside the ICU in Utah are already occupied, state data show.
967,481 vaccines have already been administered in the state, compared to 936,681 on Thursday. There are now 641,951 Utahns who have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 348,650 are fully vaccinated, state data show. A total of 1,157,345 doses of vaccine have already been sent to Utah.
The new figures indicate an increase of 0.1% in positive cases since Thursday. Of the 2,279,263 people tested for COVID-19 in Utah so far, 16.6% tested positive for the disease. The total number of tests carried out since the pandemic began is now 3,984,895, an increase of 13,535 since Thursday. Of these, 5,780 were tests from people who had not taken the previous test for COVID-19.
The two deaths reported on Friday were of men from Salt Lake County who were hospitalized when they died. One was over 85 and the other was between 45 and 64, according to the health department.
Friday’s total gives Utah 377,492 confirmed cases, with 15,049 hospitalizations and 2,017 deaths from the disease. A total of 362,874 Utah COVID-19 cases are now considered recovered, according to state data.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox provided an update on the pandemic COVID-19 at a news conference on Thursday.
