Last night, Niantic announced that the Candy XL mechanics are getting a substantial update. The official blog post for March updates has been updated to reflect this:
- Swapping Pokémon will have the chance to reward a Candy XL for the Pokémon you swapped. The chance of receiving a Candy XL will increase the greater the distance between the Pokémon’s capture locations.
- Walking with your Pokémon Buddy will now have the chance to win a Candy XL.
- Capturing legendary, mythical or evolved Pokémon is now a reward with Candy XL.
In essence, these changes introduce new ways to obtain Candy XL from game loops that have not been resolved previously. Leekduck posted a useful infographic on the subject:
