Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s revealing interview with Oprah Winfrey was certainly unprecedented – but it was also Prince William’s recent response.
In the interview, Markle, 39, and Harry, 36, made allegations of racism against the royal family and the Institution in general, notably claiming that there were “conversations and concerns” about the color of their unborn son’s skin.
Harry later clarified that Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip were not the only ones to make such comments, leaving many wondering whether it was the heirs to the throne, Prince Charles or William, who raised such “concerns”.
Shortly after the interview aired, Buckingham Palace issued a statement, calling the allegations “worrying”, but then William, 38, followed up on a personal response.
On Thursday, the king was confronted by reporters during a visit to an East London school, where he assured that the royal family “is not a racist family” and noted that he had not yet spoken to Harry, but planned to do so.

Royalty expert Katie Nicholl paid special attention to the prince’s response, saying it was unusual for William to have answered the question so casually, because UK reporters don’t usually shout questions to royalty during these appointments.

I think this is very revealing of his mood at the moment. “
In addition, she added that William is known for being “a consummate professional when it comes to being engaged”.
“He has been doing this for a long time and I think he was probably very prepared for a question,” said Nicholl. “His response was very direct, very quick, very improvised.”
