When the Dolphins replaced defender Ryan Fitzpatrick with Tua Tagovailoa last season, it was widely assumed that Fitzpatrick would be leaving at the end of the season. But Dolphins coach Brian Flores says that is not necessarily the case.
Flores said today that the doors are wide open for Fitzpatrick to return to Miami this season.
“We would love to have you back,” said Flores.
Realistically, it is hard to believe that Fitzpatrick would like to return to Miami. He was disappointed to lose the title of holder to Tagovailoa and certainly prefers to go to a place where he would have the opportunity to start.
But if he bought himself at the free agency and couldn’t find a team that was willing to give him that opportunity, maybe he would go back to Miami. If he does, he will be returning as a reserve – but if Tagovailoa has to fight, Fitzpatrick can find himself back on the field for the Dolphins.
